Appalachian Adds New Slope for Third Terrain Park

Responding to the fastest growing segment of winter youth action sports, Appalachian has added a new slope for a third terrain park on the eastern side of Upper Big Appal between the Big Appal and Appaljack slopes. The new slope will be used exclusively as a beginner progression park.

The new slope is approximately the same width as the Appal Jam Terrain Park, and about as long as Candied Appal. This slope can be most easily accessed by the #2 double chairlift, but also by the #3 quad chairlift.

The grading and excavation have recently been completed, and new lighting and snowmaking are also being installed on the new slope. “We have added this new terrain park to provide entry-level park riders an opportunity to develop their skills in a non-intimidating environment with other park riders of the same skill level,” according to Terrain Park Director Drew Stanley.  “We are currently fabricating several new and unique features specifically designed for the riders using this new terrain park.”

dude that sean guy is right they should totally put in a pipe in between hardcore and orchard run thers soo much room for that it would be sick!!! either a pipe or some big sick jump they need to do something to that area! i am soo stoked for this season to start!! i been waiting since the end of last season!

I agree with all those above. A half pipe would be an amazing addition to the best snowboard park in NC.

I give App. an A+ for making the best of the terrain they have to offer. After living in UT for 10yrs, it will not surprise me to see a world class, US Freestyle (ski/board) rider that can be proud to claim App as thier home mtn. Props to App ski/board parks.

when does the new slop open
haha - Tuesday, 29th September 2009
Sean, a halfpipe? haha....this is appskimtn. Not Vail.
Sean - Thursday, 17th September 2009
They could put a halfpipe or superpipe between Hardcore and Orchard Run. If the terrain is steep enough. From looking at the trail map there is more than enough room to support one. That would be sick.

sounds perfect. love me some mini/beginner jibs
GRabbit - Thursday, 10th September 2009
ya that would be a great idea!! an 18 foot superpipe would be sooo soo sick! only one problem.... most superpipes i've ridden have nearly the same about of veritcal feet as App has on it's whole mountain. Where would they put it? maybe they could put it right down the middle on upper and lower big appal. I wish that would turn into a terrain park or a half pipe. that would be so awesome.
Sean - Thursday, 10th September 2009
This place should add a half pipe! That would be sick.

If this is a beginners terrain park, it might be a good idea to offer park lessons for those new to park features. I think that would be a first for the region if that could be done.

I'm so there! This is where that house burned down.
G-Rabbit - Tuesday, 8th September 2009
That is great! I hope that the features in the new park will be even sicker then last season. And that the new park will be fun to ride even for better riders who are working on more tech rail stuff or switch work to bring it to the bigger parks. I also hope there are still some nice long boxes in the bigger parks for even further progression.
Sean - Monday, 7th September 2009
That's a good idea for the name of the trail. Appal Juice. I just can't wait for this season to kick off!
