ASM is getting ready for a fun weekend to end the 2022-23 season on a high note with lots of free events for the whole family at our annual Winter Meltdown Games!

Winter isn’t over until we say it is – see below for final event schedule and details. All events are free to enter, sign up in the Alpine Ski Shop the day of the event to participate.

Saturday, March 18

11am – “SKOLF” Style Rail Session: This unique event concept was born from the Snowboard company Airblaster and mixes mini golf with freestyle riding resulting in a super fun and memorable session for all abilities.

App Ski Mtn.’s iteration will feature 6 “Holes” for both skiers and snowboarders to ride. A “hole” in this case will be a park feature with a predetermined trick assigned for both beginner and advanced categories, ski & snowboard. Riders will have a limit of 4 attempts on each feature (“par”). Like golf, the lowest overall score on all 6 holes wins!

12:30pm – Cardboard Box Derby: Construct the best, fastest snow vessel using only Cardboard and Duct Tape and tackle Lower Big Appal in a race to the base! Awards for fastest finish and Best Box Design are up for grabs.

2pm – St Pats Weekend Rail Jam: The Alpine Ski Shop will host our annual St Pats Rail Jam, highlighting 4 features in our Appal Jam Terrain Park. A 15-minute Jam will go down on each of the 4 features and awards will be given for standout trick on each of these 4 features for both skiers and snowboarders. Riders must show a little festiveness and wear green to participate. Bring your Green Hat!

4pm – Trash Bag Downhill Race: The rules are simple – get a large trashbag, cut holes for your head and arms, put the trash bag on like a dress, slide like a penguin from the top of Big Appal. Divisions for 12 and under and 13 and over are offered.

Sunday, March 19

11am – High Ollie Contest: How high can you ollie? Snowboarders (and a few skiers) will try to ollie (ie Jump) over a horizontal bar set in the snow that continues to increase in height until only one rider remains. Think “Limbo” but the opposite.

1pm – Pond Skim & Costume Contest:  The signature & main Meltdown Games Event, the Pond Skim is scheduled to go down on Sunday! Snowmaking this week has made this possible, riders will attempt to cross a large body of water on skis or snowboard with enough momentum and skill to escape the icy depths. Note for Pond Skim Participants – Frigid temps are expected on Sunday, so bring a complete change of clothes and gear to change into afterwards. Awards are also given to best costume during this session, so don’t hold back! Dinosaurs, Pirates, Superheroes, Princesses, we have seen it all at our Pond Skim & Costume contests of years past.

4pm – Chinese Downhill: A simple, pure skiing & riding event. Start at the Top of Big Appal on skis or board. Everyone drops together and the first person to the bottom wins. Easy & Exciting! 12 and Under & 13 and Older divisions offered.
