Appalachian Ski Mtn. names new Slope
Blowing Rock, NC, August 28, 2006
Appalachian Ski Mtn has selected “Appal Jam” as the slope name for its new snowboard and ski terrain park. Appal Jam was selected from among hundreds of submitted entries in a contest to name the new slope. Entrants submitted suggested names both online and at Board Paradise snowboard shop in Boone.
The winning name was submitted by 16-year-old Boone resident Monty Dunlap who grew up skiing at Appalachian Ski Mtn. For his efforts Monty will receive a season pass to Appalachian Ski Mtn as well as a prize pack from Board Paradise.
Since its inception in 1962 Appalachian Ski Mtn. has played off the “Appal” portion its name with “apple” themed slope names. Appal Jam will join the likes of Appaltizer, Candied Appal, Strudel, Appaljack, Orchard Run, Upper and Lower Big Appal, Thin Slice and, Hard Core. The new slope will join Appal Jack as the mountain’s second ski and snowboard terrain park.
“This park will introduce concepts and features that will be new to the southeast region” said General Manager Brad Moretz. Park features will include various jumps, rails, and boxes for both skiers and snowboarders.
The new park lies on intermediate terrain making it well suited for beginner and intermediate riders polishing their skills, while offering unique features to challenge the more advanced rider. Since introducing freestyle ski and snowboard terrain to the resort seven years ago, Appalachian Ski Mtn. has remained on the cutting edge of the ski industry by creating high quality features catering to today’s freestyle skiers and snowboarders.
Appalachian Ski Mtn would like to thank all who participated in the contest, as well as Board Paradise snowboard shop for providing prizes.
