Winter isn’t over until we say it is! Join us for one last weekend of end-of-the-season silliness! Cardboard Box Derbies, Terrain Park Events, and our signature Pond Skim / Costume Contest are just part of the fun!
All events are FREE to enter with purchase of a ski ticket. Same day registration for all events is offered in the Alpine Ski Shop.
Meltdown Games Schedule:
Saturday, March 14
11am β High Ollie Contest: How high can you ollie? Snowboarders (and a few skiers) will try to ollie (ie Jump) over a horizontal bar set in the snow that continues to increase in height until only one rider remains. Think βLimboβ but the opposite.
12:30pm β Ski & Snowboard Big Air: We know you’ve been practicing all year long, let’s see your best and biggest jump tricks to end the season on a sky high note!
3pm β Cardboard Box Derby: Construct the best, fastest snow vessel using only Cardboard and Duct Tape and tackle Lower Big Appal in a race to the base! Awards for fastest finish and Best Box Design are up for grabs.
4pm β Trash Bag Downhill Race: The rules are simple β get a large trashbag, cut holes for your head and arms, put the trash bag on like a dress, slide like a penguin from the top of Big Appal. Divisions for 12 and under and 13 and over are offered.
Sunday, March 15
11am β 80’s Mogul Competition: That’s right, we are throwing it back to the good ole days with this one! A specially crafted bump field will be offered on Upper Big Appal with an opportunity for some airtime at the end! Genuine 80’s attire is strongly encouraged, and all tricks must be in the spirit of this special time in history, with no off axis tricks being judged, only good old twisters, daffys, spread eagles… well you get the point.
1pm β Pond Skim & Costume Contest: Β The signature & main Meltdown Games Event, the Pond Skim is scheduled to go down on Sunday! Snowmaking this week has made this possible, riders will attempt to cross a large body of water on skis or snowboard with enough momentum and skill to escape the icy depths. Note for Pond Skim Participants β Frigid temps are expected on Sunday, so bring a complete change of clothes and gear to change into afterwards. Awards are also given to best costume during this session, so donβt hold back! Dinosaurs, Pirates, Superheroes, Princesses, we have seen it all at our Pond Skim & Costume contests of years past.
4pm β Chinese Downhill: A simple, pure skiing & riding event. Start at the Top of Big Appal on skis or board. Everyone drops together and the first person to the bottom wins. Easy & Exciting! 12 and Under & 13 and Older divisions offered.
