Blowing Rock, Village of Downtown

Blowing Rock has been a well known summer resort getaway since the 1870’s. In 1962, Appalachian Ski Mtn. founder, Bill Thalheimer, said that one of the reasons he chose Blowing Rock as a location to build a ski area was because “Blowing Rock was the best known vacation destination between Palm Beach and Newport, Rhode Island.” The ten-block downtown Main Street area surrounds the Blowing Rock Memorial Park, a picturesque wooded playground area. The downtown village features 12 restaurants, coffee shops, an internet cafe, ice cream and candy stores, as well as fine art galleries, antique stores, jewelry, handmade crafts, oriental rugs and numerous other shopping opportunities.
